Manhattan Beach Little League

MB Little League Spring 2021 General Information

Welcome to Manhattan Beach Little League 2021 Spring Season!

The City has informed us that they will allow MBLL access to the baseball fields in late February for all our eager 5-16 year old players.  Due to the current state of the pandemic, Little League baseball in 2021 will be a little different.

It will involve protocol restricted practices with clear mandates.  The city is granting each player one 2-hour practice per week.  Scrimmages and games TBD as the situation permits, but currently not allowed.

The registration fee will be $150 per player to cover our costs of charter membership dues, insurance, field maintenance, baseballs and select COVID protection items.  No uniforms at this time.  We will be offering refunds in the event of a late start, cancellation, or other unexpected event in accordance with the amount of season time used.

Based on the current county guidelines we will have to abide by all the following mandated parameters listed below.  NO EXCEPTIONS  And if not followed players, teams or MBLL could lose the right to use the baseball fields.

We are all being asked to take these matters very serious and it is vital that parents properly convey these rules to their children to ensure a safe environment for the league

  • Everyone has to wear a mask.  No exceptions
  • Everyone has to physically keep 6 feet apart.  No exceptions
  • No scenario of a player pitching to a batter with a catcher
  • Drills/clinics/training ONLY.  NO SCRIMMAGES OR GAMES!!!!
  • Everyone must provide their own equipment – no sharing at all
  • 2 hours/team/week.  No more
  • Limited dugout use
  • No food including gum or sunflower seeds and absolutely no spitting.  Players can bring their own drink properly labeled
  • Staggered start times between practices to prevent gathering (30 minutes)
  • Parents are allowed to stay and observe practice, but must wear masks and stay 6 feet apart.  No mingling.  Once practice ends they must promptly leave.  The city would prefer that only one parent attend and siblings be kept away.
  • All spectators must refrain from entering the field or dugout.
  • Each family will be required to sign a league waiver
  • If any player, managers or coach on the team tests positive they most immediately notify the league and the entire team is shut down for quarantine till it is safe to return
  • If any players, managers or coaches family member exhibits COVID symptoms they must most immediately notify the league and not return until the family and player are cleared
  • Any team caught not following the above protocols will be immediately suspended.  In the event multiple teams do not follow MBLL could be terminated for the remainder of the Spring.

We wish all MBLL families are safe during these unprecedented times.  After the disappointing cancellation of our Spring, Summer and Fall seasons in 2020 we are very excited to offer a great program for Spring 2021 in tradition of Manhattan Beach Little League and continuing focus on excellence in being the largest organized baseball program for boys and girls in the South Bay!

!!!!!!!Please Please Please read this document in its entirety as it will help you immensely through the registration process as well as the upcoming season!!!!!!!!

Eligibility, Age Determination & Player Placement

Manhattan Beach Residents or Kids That Are Enrolled in Manhattan Beach Schools Only.  No Exceptions

Only Manhattan Beach residents or children that attend school within the Manhattan Beach district can register their child for MB Little League.  If you are a resident of any other city please go to their Little League site for registration in the proper city. This includes residents of Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach.

We offer many programs for ages 5-16.  Please click the link below for the Little League International age chart to determine your players appropriate age for division placement.

Please read the following carefully as it may affect the division your player is eligible for and placed in.

Manhattan Beach Little League will strictly be following the Little League Age Chart for all divisions of play. There will be no movement to a different age division. Do not request. We want all kids to have the best experience possible with their classmates while looking out for the safety of all involved. Parents need to agree that the placement of their child in their specific division is FINAL as well as team placement.  No exceptions.

Based on entry of your child’s birthdate, the site will automatically show which division(s) are available for your child based on their Little League age.

Division placement is determined by a players league age and will be strictly followed for all divisions of play.  The registration application will automatically offer which division(s) are available.  Please click the link below to help show which are available with a brief explanation.

Please note depending on where they fall more than one division of play may be available to choose from.  This only applies to 6, 8 and 11 year olds as all other divisions are mandated per age.  You will have to discuss with your child what they feel will offer the best fit and experience. All player placement is based on availability of spots in each division and the Little League age requirements. You will have initial option of selecting should two be available but the final allocation may change.

As an example and based on birthdates, certain 11 year olds will have the option of Triple A or Majors.  Some players may be more comfortable playing as the elder of their division or some may be looking to “play up” to a higher level.  You will have to discuss with your child what they feel will offer the best fit and experience though the higher division may not be available even if selected.  Based on final registration numbers, divisions may fill up requiring younger players to be placed in the lower division offered. Evaluations will also be taken info account.

But note in the Majors division, it is mandated by Little League International that all 12 year olds must be in that division. Therefore, first priority will go to 12 year olds and after that, placement of select 11 year olds will be based on evaluations and the draft.  There will be NO player movements after draft unless approved by the MB Little League executive board and division commissioner.

Parent / Player / Coach Code of Conduct

Also in accordance with Little League International, MB Little League will continue to follow a strict Code of Conduct for parents, players and coaches.  All are viewable on the MB Little League website along with our Disciplinary Policy. We want all adult and children MB Little League participants to exhibit exemplary behavior both on and off the field and know that having rules and policies documented will make it clear for all during the season.

Field Improvements

Beginning in 2019 MB Little League began the vast undertaking of improving five MB city baseball fields to much success -  Premier, Marine East, Marine Center, Live Oak and Big Marine.  This year we are planning to continue working and maintaining these improvements. These investments to improve all fields include items such as new sod and infield clay, new sprinkler systems and irrigation, rebuilt pitchers mounds, break-away bases, etc....  Note that all fields will be shut down and locked in early December to allow our crews time to refresh the infield clay and grass. We ask at this time for everyone to stay off the baseball fields to ensure the current and new sod along with the clay infields are ready for opening day Saturday February 27th.  We take a lot of pride in our fields and ask that all teams respect and help in the maintaining of each so players will have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Other Important Information

Opening Day Parade

Due to the current and on-going situation with COVID-19 MBLL may have to consider cancelling the 2021 Opening Day Parade.  It is unfortunate and we will be closely monitoring the progress of Los Angeles County should anything change.

Snack Stand:

Due to the current and on-going situation with COVID-19 MBLL will most likely be suspending all snack stands.  In-addition to being a great way to get a snack, it was a great source of generating league funds to help offset registration costs.  But for the time being each family will not be required to complete their two 90-minute snack stand shifts or buy-out option.  We will let everyone know if anything changes.

Intermediate 50/70 Division:

Manhattan Beach Little League will again be offering the Intermediate 50/70 division for players age 12 - 13, which will also include play vs teams from Redondo and Hermosa Beach.  As a non-competitive division with no standings or playoffs, the primary goal is to provide the players a suitable vehicle to transition from the traditional sized Little League Baseball fields to fields that will prepare players for the bigger fields used for the Junior and Senior divisions.

Kids are allowed to play in this division while also playing on a MBLL Majors or Juniors teams.  They may also choose to just play in just this 50/70 division.  They will play approximately 12 games each Sunday (late February - May) and have no additional practices.  There will be a 50/70 All-Star team for select 13 year olds that meet the eligibility requirements.

Please note that spots are limited in this division and priority will be given to older players. Should a player need to be removed due to reaching maximum team space capacity a full refund will be provided.

Volunteers for Managers/Coaches

The success of MB Little League is determined by our amazing volunteers.  Like past years, we need you to volunteer to help the league thrive. We truly appreciate all who apply to Manage and Coach teams in the league.  The privilege of managing and coaching your child is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and hope you will consider taking advantage of the opportunity.  All Managers and Coaches MUST be approved by the MB Little League board and not guaranteed in the event more requests are made versus slots available. In-addition, all Managers will be required to attend a Managers meeting TBD  to discuss rules, safety certification, coaching codes of conduct and the goals of the up-coming season.

Note that for the Double A, Triple A and Majors divisions only team Managers will be selected prior to each draft.  There will be no pairing up with coaches prior. Depending on which players are drafted by each Manager will determine a team’s coaching and practice staff.

Evaluation Weekend

All player pitch division participants (Double A, Triple A, Majors, Juniors, Seniors) will be required to attend.  Weekend TBD.  There will be no other dates for evaluations.  This mandatory one-time 30 minute evaluation session is necessary to ensure the proper rankings and placement prior to team drafts. Details to follow as time gets closer. Location and Time - TBD

Note if considering the Majors division you will need to present your player's birth certificate (will not be kept).  All players regardless of division will need to provide their completed medical waiver prior to taking the field.
