DIVISIONS OF PLAY & PLAYER PLACEMENT



PLAYER PLACEMENT

Manhattan Beach Little League will strictly be following the above age chart for all divisions of play.  There will be no movement to a different age division. Do not request.  We want all kids to have the best experience possible with their classmates while looking out for the safety of all involved.  Parents need to agree that the placement of their child in their specific division by age is final as well as team placement.  No exceptions.

Please do not alter your child's birthdate!!!  Any manipulation can lead to a players removal from the league.


Tee Ball

Tee Ball Baseball is for boys and girls 5-6 years old who want to be introduced and learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. In Tee Ball, players spend a portion of their season hitting a ball off a batting tee as well as learning to hit pitched balls from coaches. Rules of the game are designed to accommodate the need for teaching. As a Non-Competitive Division, the primary goals of Tee Ball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball, to allow them to experience the value of teamwork and give them the opportunity to play baseball with their friendsTee Ball has one weekly game each Saturday morning, in-addition to one weekly practice (late February - May).

Please note that if your child is Little League age 6, you may choose Tee Ball or Single A which is Machine Pitch. If this is your child's first introduction to baseball they may prefer Tee Ball.  Final decision must be made prior to team formations in January.  No changes will be made after.

Single A

Single A Baseball is for boys and girls 6-8 years old who are hitting from a machine pitched ball as well as continuing to build on the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. Rules of the game are designed to accommodate the need for teaching. As a Non-Competitive Division, the primary goals of Single-A are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball, to allow them to experience the value of teamwork and give them the opportunity to play baseball with their friends. Single A has one weekly game each Saturday morning, in-addition to one weekly practice (late February - May).

Please note that if your child is Little League age 8, you may choose Single A which is Machine Pitch or Double AA which is Player Pitch. Final decision must be made prior to Double A evaluations in January.  No changes will be made after.  

Double A

Double A baseball - is for boys and girls 8-9 years old who are transitioning from machine/coach pitched play to batting against opposing youth pitchers. AA Baseball is Manhattan Beach Little League's entry-level competitive baseball division. Play is on 46/60-foot fields. As a Competitive Division, the primary goals of AA Baseball are to create a fair and balanced competition throughout the division and provide a suitable vehicle for team and individual skills development. Scoring and Standings are kept. Umpires officiate the game.  The season ends with double elimination playoffs. Double A has two weekly games each Sunday and Thursday, in-addition to one weekly practices (late February - May).

Triple A

Triple A Baseball is for boys and girls 10-11 years old who are continuing to develop their abilities in a competitive baseball environment. Play is on 46/60-foot fields. Triple A Baseball is Manhattan Beach Little League's highest Minor division before moving on to Little Majors baseball. As a Competitive Division, the primary goals of AAA Baseball are to create a fair and balanced competition throughout the division, provide a suitable vehicle for team and individual skills development and prepare the players for Majors Division play. Scoring and Standings are kept. Umpires officiate the game. The season ends with double elimination playoffs. Triple A has two weekly games each Saturday and Wednesday, in-addition to one weekly practices (late February - May).

Please note that if your child is Little League age 11 you may choose Triple A or Majors.  Some players may be more comfortable playing as the elder of their division or some may be looking to "play up" to a higher level.  You will have to discuss with your child what they feel will offer the best fit and experience though the Major division may not be available.  Based on final registration numbers, Majors may fill up requiring 11 year olds to be placed in Triple A.  Evaluations will also be taken into account.      


Majors

Majors Baseball is for boys and girls 11-12 years old who are refining all the skills they have been building up in the Minor divisions in this next stage of competitive baseball. All 12 year olds must be placed in this division only and priority goes to this age.  As a Competitive Division, the primary goals of Majors Baseball are to create a fair and balanced competition throughout the division, provide a suitable vehicle for team and individual skills development and stage the players for much higher levels of play. Scoring and Standings are kept. Umpires officiate the game. The season ends with double elimination playoffs. Majors has two weekly games each Saturday and Tuesday, in-addition to one weekly practices (late February - May).

Intermediate (50/70)

Intermediate (50/70) Baseball is for boys and girls 12-13 years old some who are preparing to transition from 46/60-foot fields to 60/90-foot sized baseball fields. 50/70 Division allows players preparing for higher divisions to incrementally transition by providing the opportunity to develop on a larger field prior to making the move to 60/90 foot sized fields. As a Non-Competitive Division with no standings or playoffs, the primary goal of Intermediate (50/70) Baseball are to provide the players a suitable vehicle to transition from traditional sized Little League Baseball fields to fields that will prepare players for most competitive arenas of Youth Baseball such as Junior Little League and Senior Little League. Kids are allowed to play in this division while also playing on a MBLL Majors or Juniors teams.  They may also choose to just play in just this Intermediate (50/70) division. This division will play approximately 12 games each Sunday (late February - May) and have no additional practices during the week.

Please note that spots are limited in this division and priority will be given to older players.  Should a player need to be removed due to reaching maximum space capacity a full refund will be provided

Junior League

Junior League Baseball is for boys and girls 13-14 years old who are honing their abilities at the highest levels of competition. Juniors baseball is played using a conventional 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches. As a Competitive Division, the primary goals of Juniors Baseball are to provide the players a suitable vehicle to take their game to the next level in preparation for most competitive arenas of Youth Baseball such as Senior Little League and High School. Rosters are, typically, more than 12 players. Youth pitching is at this level. Scoring and Standings are kept. Umpires officiate the game. The season ends with double elimination playoffs. Juniors has two weekly games each Saturday and midweek in-addition to one weekly practice (late February - May).

Senior League

Senior League Baseball is for boys 14-16 years old who are honing their abilities at the highest levels of competition. Senior baseball is played using a conventional 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches. As a Competitive Division, the primary goals of Senior League Baseball are to provide the players a suitable vehicle to take their game to the next level in preparation for High School. Rosters are, typically, more than 12 players. Youth pitching is at this level. Scoring and Standings are kept. Umpires officiate the game. The season ends with double elimination playoffs. Seniors has two weekly games each Saturday and midweek in-addition to one weekly practice (late February - May).
